The 3 essential rules of bagpipe chanter grip
Straight fingers, flat pads
Do not curl your fingers like on a recorder. Use the flat pad of your middle phalange across the holes to guarantee an airtight seal without tension.
Left hand on top
Your left hand covers the back thumb hole and top three holes (index, middle, ring). Your pinky finger rests comfortably relaxed in the air.
Right hand on bottom
Your right hand covers the four lower holes including pinky. Your right thumb rests at the back of the chanter between index and middle holes as a pivot.
